his painting was taken from a photo my sister took on a day trip to the Lake District. l love the movement of the water so much I just had to paint it.
Painted wet into wet 300lb Arches paper, I love this paper it gives you the best possible chance of creating a successful watercolour.



 
 
Angel (Sold) Angel of the North,Gateshead(Sold) 14x22
Angel of the North, was purchased by the David Reay Memorial Fund which is a charity helping people with liver cancer and  ward 16 Freeman Hospital is one of the main treatment center's in the north East.
Dave Reay was a good friend and my brother in law and this painting was commissioned by George Reay his father in his memory, George always called him his angel of the north.
 
Bamburgh A 9 x 14 Bamburgh Castle Northumberland (SOLD) 9 x 14

Bamburgh Castle Northumberland, fantastic beach at Bamburgh clean and not too busy, spent the whole day there with the family, and painted this small watercolour and numerous sketches from which I completed a number of paintings.
 
Fatfield House Fatfield House Harraton14x22

Painted on a very foggy September morning, Fatfield House is a lovely old house on Vigo Lane Harraton beside St George's church, its busy getting a barn conversion into flats.

Bamburgh C (Sold) Bamburgh Castle Northumberland (Sold)
Purchased by the David Reay Memorial Fund which is a charity helping people with liver cancer.
This painting is in ward 16 Freeman Hospital, I loved painting around Bamburgh, wether its the castle, beach or the surrounding area, there is just so much to see.




Bank Holiday STH 14 x 22 (Sold) Bank Holiday (Tynemouth Beach 14 x 22 Sold)
Day trip to Tynemouth long sands beach, the beach was quite busy just time for a quick sketch, between looking in rock pools for crabs, painting completed in the studio.
This painting is currently in the Diagnostic Center South Tyneside Hospital, if you wanted to view it.

North Shields breakwater beside R.N.L.I building, this painting was taken from a small watercolour I did a few years ago, its a simple graduated wash trying to keep the wash as clean as possible.

tar Buck's Cafe Grey Monument, good place for a coffee and a rest or to watch life pass you by, which is what l mostly do, it was a very busy morning, lots of stalls and people around the place.

Tanfield Railway museum
plenty of old railway engines and a working railway track, good place to visit on a weekend, check it out
My brother in law and I spent the whole morning here, they have a large garage where they keep the working engines we went in and had a chat with the Engineer about the history of the place and where some of the locomotives came from.

Penshaw Monument Penshaw Monument 14x22
Penshaw Monument officially The of Durham's Monument built in 1844 on Penshaw hill between Washington and Sunderland.
The 70 foot high is a replica of the temple of Hephaestus in Athens and can be seen for miles around.
From the Top of the Monument it commands fabulous views of the surrounding country side.
Originally painted a smaller version of this for Katie my Gandaugher.

Fantastic old Castle now used as a hotel it also has a golf course and a venue for wedding and Christmas, New Year parties.

Cold January morning one man and this dog on the beach, the sky was overcast with a hint a crimson towards the horizon, it was bit to cold to hang about too long.

Continental Market, Grey's Monument Newcastle this painting and the one below were taken from my sketch book.
I sat at the corner cafe and just sketched some of  the people walking past, it was a cool but bright morning

The last couple of years there has been a Continental style market beside Grey's monument for about a month or so every year, it brings a bit of colour to the place and you pick up your Polish cheese or French Truffles, there are all sorts of stalls.

This is the path from Fatfield to Coxgreen which then carries on too the coast, I love the dabbled light, beautiful and soft November morning, cool and quiet.

Small watercolour painted around 8am before to it was too busy, very quick dry brush painting to get a flavour of the scene.

Fast Eddies as it used to be called, now its being redeveloped and cleaned up hopefully back to its original glory.
This painting was bought by a good friend of mine, that said he liked it, but I think it was to cover up a hole in his wall.
Wild sky on this one, mostly painted with a 3" hack brush.

Tried a different sky on this to bring out the white dome of Fast Eddies, enjoyed painting this very dramatic and full of movement.

Ferry landing Fatfield with the Victoria Viaduct in the distance, I was struck by the dramatic sky and bright sunshine.
Painted this wet on wet and let the paint do he work.

Jazz players on Northumberland street which is the main or busiest shopping area in Newcastle and where most of the street performers head for, they were very loud but good.

Lifeboat  Monument just a few minutes from the beach, used a graduated wash for this one being a warm still day  without any rain very rare indeed.

Monument Newcastle one of the most recognizable places in the town,a meeting place and somewhere to have lunch.
This painting was taken form a smaller watercolour and sketches I made on site, very busy especially around 12pm.

Painted this still life dry brush on Fabriano Artistico 140lb paper, my Daughter wanted this one for her flat, enjoyed painting this, it was quick and simple.

Could not resist this scene a fishing boat out of the water getting a repaint, the R.N.L.I building behind the boat has since been pulled down and replaced with a new one, I painted a smaller 9x14 painting on the spot.

Great shaped rocks and a good view of Whitley Bay from here, a quiet place away from the main beach and time for a small sketch.

A different subject for me a simple rose from my garden and a onion and tomatoe from the supermarket.

Hazy warm afternoon at the beach spent a quiet day, my family building sand castles in the fore ground.

Smoke Houses North Shields, fantastic old wooden buildings, were they smoke the fish, painted from a sketch I did from the Wooden Doll pub sheltering from the pending storm.
The view from the Wooden Doll is great you can see the whole of the mouth of the Tyne and they have some great real ale on tap.

This is the main entrance to St Nicholas Cathedral, its a fantactic structure and well a worth a visit, I spent many a hour exploring this building inside and out.

2 Commissioned watercolours of St Mary's Light house, both very different, the first on a cool wind swept morning with a fresher feeling and the second on a warmer still afternoon, both were taken from smaller watercolours, always great to sketch and paint this one.

This is the top of Dean Street which lends down to the quayside, there was a brief shower then bright sun this painting  was taken from my sketch book.
I often walk down Dean Street there is a great guitar shop (Sounds Live) on the right were I try the new acoustic guitars out, I'll have to buy something someday.

South Shields from the ferry Landing looking back at Mill Dam, still a few Tugs to tow ships up and down the Tyne, nothing  much left regarding ship building just plenty of luxury flats.

Great view of the mouth of the Tyne here, looking inland you can see North and South Shields out to sea the 2 piers with the light house, its also very close to Tynemouth Priory Castle which is about 100 meters away.
Its very exposed up here but well worth the walk, this painting was taken from a smaller watercolour I did while sitting on one of the many wooden benches.

The Monument during a sunshower on a busy Saturday morning, great Continental food Market lots of colour and noise.
Love to sketch and paint around the monument as long as its early before it get too busy,  great on a sunday.
Mostly painted on site and finished in the studio.

Painted this from a smaller 9x14 watercolour above, tried to keep a  more relaxed style for this one, medium to light tone
painted wet in wet to try and emphasis the wet pavement, painted on Arches 140 not paper.

Heavy skies and cold wind, very refreshing, this painting was taken from a tonal sketch with a graphite pencil, very quick just a few large shapes for the sky and beach.

Old shed on the road to Offerton just beside Penshaw Momument, painted this on the spot on a cold and snowy morning in January, mostly done dry brush except the sky.

Waterfall Richmond river Swale, the river was the colour of strong tea or burnt sienna, it had been raining and the water was fast and strong, very deep green trees behind the waterfall, which I painted as one large shape.
This painting was bought by South Tyneside Hospital and if you are ever in the Hospital check it out.
